Really fucked. This is what happens when you spend three weeks dismantling and rebuilding a stubborn Jaguar IRS and swapping powerlock internals into your diff.

This is the breakdown of time taken to swap suspension bushes:

-rear + diff internal swap: 3 weeks of alternative evenings

-front: 5 hours

It's finally back on four wheels and ready to hoon though :) now I just need some gravel roads and a GoPro...

Typical day in the life of a Jaguar owner.

Mine's pretty fucked, because I have both my Lancia and my 2002 partially disassembled, plus some unfinished drywall from when I knocked a room out to make room for the 2002. It doesn't help that the garage shares a wall with my daughters' room, so my night work is limited to quiet stuff, like working on my bicycles. Hard to accomplish much on 40+ year old cars without making some noise.

You have a Lancia? Kickass, which one?

It is hard to do anything on cars without making noise. Interior or maybe engine building is all you can really do...

A '64 Flavia coupe, it was my grandfather's car. I need cylinder heads for it, the car sat for 17 years& they're badly corroded.

Oh cool :) very impressed. That's a proper Lancia you have there. Ever since seeing the Flavia 200 in Rush I've wanted a saloon version, and it turns out my dad had one as well so we've been looking together. Rare as hen's teeth though :S

That was the best part of the movie for me. Berlinas are hard to find for sure, but they're lovely. There's a gray one around here that comes out of hiding occasionally. Even if my coupe wasn't a family car, it's still interesting enough that I'd want one anyway. It's a thoughtfully engineered and mechanically interesting car.

Yeah I always think of old Lancias as mechanically beautiful pieces of clockwork. That seems the best way to describe cars like the Fulvia and Flavia. Not going to win any muscle contests or drag races, but just beautifully thought out and put together machines.

I will own one someday. I'm still kicking myself for not picking up a £1500 Fulvia 1.3S in running condition back before their price shot to £17k :S

Cool topic, didn't know there was an old brit car guy posting on here, rear ends and garages, I had trouble with the diff in my TR250, took it out and pulled the seal, which was toast anyway, hadn't drained it completely, set it on the floor forgetting the aforementioned, and..big ass stinky gear lube mess on the floor, pretty much a full bag of kitty litter later and it was gone, but still.

Didn't take a pic.

I wanted to respond to what I am pretty sure is your article about discovering comfortable cars after driving a Spitfire for a while, but can't find it. I do know where you are coming from, though not exactly a luxo barge, I recently had a cheap:

And found myself driving it a lot more than this, which is much nicer cosmetically and mechanically even though you can't really tell that from the pics:

Just because the BMW was so much easier to get in and out of and relatively roomy. But I still love the TR, it gets autocrossed as well.

You have a TR250? Dude :) I absolutely love those cars.

It wasn't me who posted that article, although I remember chipping in on it :)

Personally I've got a Spitfire MkIV which is currently in bits in my garage. It's getting rebuilt with the injected 2.5l I6 from a UK market TR6 (actually a 2.5PI saloon, but built to TR6 spec), CV rear suspension and a lightweight front end to offset the weight :) I've just finished seam-welding the chassis, so there's a long way to go, but it should be very cool when it's done :) you can find all the updates here :)

Kinja'd!!!

I would like to have an accompanying saloon or something to cruise around in when I don't want to have my ears deafened with a near-unsilenced I6. My Jaaag will do very nicely for that, or perhaps a V8 SD1 or a Triumph 2500. Perhaps even a Dolomite 1850 would do the trick :)

Looks like an ambitious project, but should be really cool when done.

Lightweight, yeah I see the holes :)

Isn't the 2.5 block a little taller than the 2 liter used in the GT6 as well?

Absolutely :)

The blocks are identical, but the sumps are different to clear a chassis member in the GT6 and the longer throw crank fouls on the shallow end. To make it fit I heated it up with an oxy-acetylene torch and hammered three channels into it so that the crank will just about clear :)
